Juliane Schicker receives the Harold F. Martin Graduate Assistant Outstanding Teaching Award
Juliane Schicker has received the Harold F. Martin Graduate Assistant Outstanding Teaching Award. The award recognizes graduate assistants for superb teaching and is jointly sponsored by the Graduate School and Office of the Dean and Vice President for Undergraduate Education.
Juliane has taught a wide variety of German language courses, ranging from elementary to upper-level intermediate, including on-line instruction and intensive courses in the summer. A hallmark of her approach has been the consistent use of German for classroom communication even at the beginner level and the integration of cultural information into language instruction. She has tapped into student’s creative talent by making them produce German poetry and films.
Juliane Schicker is a Ph.D. candidate in the German graduate program specializing in German literature and culture with a focus on social and cultural movements in the GDR (East Germany).
