High School German Day 2012 a big success

High School German Day 2012 a big success

German Day 2012 was held at the HUB-Robeson Center on April 11, 2012. Over 250 high school students from 11 different schools throughout central Pennsylvania participated, with some schools driving in from as far away as Allentown and Gibsonia to take part in the day’s activities. Students competed in a variety of German-language and culture activities and they also had the opportunity to tour campus and visit undergraduate German courses. Many PSU undergraduate students helped out with the event, volunteering to give campus tours (in German!) and escort students to and from class visitations. Prizes were awarded to individual student winners in a German poetry recitation competition, a German spelling bee, a German poster competition, and a Jeopardy quiz show. Prizes were also awarded to the top three schools overall: 3rd place went to MMI Preparatory School (Freeland, PA), 2nd place went to State College Area High School, and 1st place went to Emmaus High School. Congratulations to all students and schools who participated!

Mark your calendars: High School German Day 2013 has been scheduled for March 20, 2013.
