Deborah Adeyeye

German Linguistics/Applied Linguistics and Language Science (dual-title Ph.D.)

Wilson Xu

German Literature and Culture and Visual Studies (dual-title Ph.D.)

Hi, my name is Wilson Xu, and I am a PhD student studying German literature. My topic is concerned with how peace is represented in German literature, film, and theatre. I chose to pursue a PhD in German because it is an amazing opportunity to work with texts that I am genuinely interested in. I strongly believe that the work and the experience that can be gained from a PhD is already rewarding and should not be weighed against potential outcomes. However, the German program at Penn State has a great record of accomplishment when it comes to placing their students in various academic and non-academic roles. The PhD program at Penn State has a lot to offer, such as the visual studies dual title which allows me to study visual arts as well as German literature. The diverse opportunities that Penn State offers through the German program have the potential to broaden my range for career opportunities while simultaneously developing my academic knowledge and skills required for a career in academia. It is my strong belief that what a degree in humanities offers is the production and continued perseverance of knowledge that allows us to observe the world in a more nuanced perspective.
