Undergraduate Maria Badanova Co-Translates Book with GSLL Professor Michael Naydan

Maria Badanova, a sophomore majoring in psychology and president of GLOBE, an honors special living option which seeks to form a close knit community of globally minded individuals, has teamed up with Michael Naydan, Professor of Russian, to translate the complete writings on Africa by the Russian poet Nikolai Gumilev. The result, Nikolai Gumilev's Africa, has recently appeared with Glagoslav Press.

Badanova says of her experience: "I am very grateful to Dr. Naydan for giving me the opportunity to work on this translation. I appreciated his giving me the freedom to work through the texts independently, and I felt that all of my comments and corrections were valued. It was also fascinating to see what goes into the publishing of a book, and I got to follow the process every step of the way, while also networking with professionals from Glagoslav Publications. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better summer - mine was filled with adventure as I followed Gumilev to the farthest corners of 19th-century Africa."
