Hyoun-A Joo

Ph.D. candidate in German Linguistics and Language Science

Biography:

Hyoun-A Joo is a graduate student since Fall 2012, pursuing the dual-title degree of German Linguistics and Language Science. She received her Magistra Artium at the Freie Universität (FU) Berlin and taught German in Seoul and Berlin before starting her Ph.D. Her research interests lie in linguistic phenomena at the interface of syntax, morphology, and semantics acquired by adult second language (L2) learners in a natural setting, rather than in a classroom. In her dissertation she wants to investigate the acquisition of passives, middles, and anticausatives in native speakers of Korean who immigrated to Germany and live immersed in their L2 German for over 40 years.
