Biography:

Courtney Johnson Fowler is currently pursuing a dual-title Ph.D. in German Applied Linguistics and Language Science (through the Center for Language Science) under the guidance of her advisor, Dr. Carrie Jackson. Prior to coming to Penn State in 2011, she had spent a total of four years in Austria and received her M.A in German Studies from Bowling Green State University. Her main interests include psycholinguistics, second language acquisition, and bilingualism. While at Penn State she has spent a summer doing research at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany, visited scholars at the University of Granada (Spain), and spent a Fulbright year conducting dissertation research in both South Tyrol (Italy) and Austria. Her dissertation looks at cross-language interaction at the level of grammatical gender in German-Italian bilinguals from South Tyrol and Austria.
